Perhaps one element of the industry that has changed very little since the onset of COVID-19 is security.
Hackers have not been put off by a global pandemic; data breaches are still occurring; and the techniques used by the protagonists are often one step ahead of the brands and the systems that they target.
It is this constant battle that the industry is involved in – and likely to be involved in for a long time - that keeps many a chief information officer awake at night.
So has there been an increase in attacks, successful or otherwise, during the pandemic?
And what's coming down the road, both in terms of technological developments to alleviate the threats and the tactics being adopted to advance the efforts of hackers?
We spoke to Dee Waddell, global managing director for travel and transportation at
IBM
, to understand these trends and what are some of the vulnerabilities that the travel industry is still experiencing.
